Bilbys can breed up to four times a year, depending on the availability of food. In the wild bilby’s can live up to five years, in captivity Bilbys can live up to nine years. Bilbys can breed from 6 months old and have litters of two. The bilby has a gestation period of 14 days and gives birth to a joey who crawls from the birth canal to its mothers pouch where it spends 60 days attached to their mothers’ nipple. The joey will spend a further 30 days living in the and out of their mother’s pouch before becoming independent, leaving the burrow at about 100 days.
